Time Series data is a sequence of observations over a period of time. The goal of capturing time series data from IoT devices such as sensors is to learn from observations and apply that learning or analytics to improve upon some experience or to help predict the next event, given previous observations.
In this lab, you will simulate temperature sensor readings, then capture, ingest and analyze the data with Amazon ElastiCache for Redis. The entire solution is:

- Create a Thing using the AWS IoT Service.
- Emulate a sensor and configure AWS IoT to track data.
- Securely connect to your instance.
- Deploy an AWS Lambda function and IoT Rule.
- Analyze Sensor Data using Redis CLI.

What is Amazon ElastiCache?
Amazon ElastiCache is a web service that helps improve the performance of web applications by allowing you to retrieve information from fast, managed, in-memory caches, instead of relying entirely on slower disk-based databases. It supports two common, open-source engines, Memcached and Redis.
What is AWS IoT?
AWS Internet of Things (IoT) is a managed cloud platform that lets connected devices easily and securely interact with cloud applications and other devices. AWS IoT can support billions of devices and trillions of messages, and can process and route those messages to AWS endpoints and to other devices reliably and securely. With AWS IoT, your applications can keep track of and communicate with all your devices, all the time, even when they aren’t connected.
In this lab, you will see how AWS IoT makes it easy to use AWS services like AWS Lambda and Amazon ElastiCache Service to build IoT applications that gather, process, and analyze data generated by connected devices (in this case an emulator), without having to manage any infrastructure.
